Battens support Blueloop’s Jailbreak for BBC Children in Need

Battens Solicitors, which has offices across the South West and London, recently supported two teams from Blueloop Ltd, an IT and Cyber Security company based in Yeovil for their Blueloop Jailbreak Challenge in aid of BBC Children in Need.

Battens’ director, Ceri Stephens and tax and trust accountant, James England presented Blueloop with a cheque for £200 after sponsoring the company’s charity escape.

“Huge congratulations to the teams from Blueloop, for not only evading capture for so many miles, but for smashing their fundraising target of £1,500 for Children in Need,” said Ceri Stephens,  the newest director of Battens.

“This charity does so much good in the UK, and we are thrilled to have supported it this year in such a unique way through Battens Charitable Trust.”

Four convicts broke out of their Blueloop House cells to escape as far as possible in 36 hours from their HQ in Yeovil, Somerset.

Free business advice lunch: are your workers’ rights, right?

Battens Solicitors to host important Employment Advice Lunches

Cab company Uber recently made headlines after two of its drivers took court action against it claiming that they were workers and were therefore entitled to certain rights, including holiday pay and the National Minimum Wage. A free business advisory lunch hosted by Battens – one of the South West’s largest law firms – plans to shed some much needed light on this difficult area. The lunch (known as EAT Lunch @ Battens) will be led by Dawn Gallie, Head of Employment, and will discuss employment status and what factors businesses need to take into account to show whether its staff are employees, workers or truly self employed.

Jailbreaks are tough, but this one was even harder for the Blueloop Jailbreak Challenge as the escapees were not permitted to use money for travel, food or accommodation – and each team were handcuffed together. But it was all in a good cause – to raise money for BBC Children in Need.

The first escape team to set off were Blueloop’s sales and marketing manager, Julie Grant and office manager, Sarah Hatch. Not far behind were the second team Darryn Knowles, business development executive and Ryan Grant, a former Blueloop employee.
