New trustees sought for Dorset Museum

Dorset Museum is currently looking to recruit up to four trustees to start over a two-and-a-half-year period.

A spokesperson said; “We are looking specifically for Trustees with backgrounds in Finance, Fundraising and Development, Museums, or Community Engagement and Representation to help guide the Museum through an exciting and challenging period in its history.”

Located in Dorchester, the Museum has recently completed an inspiring multi-million-pound redevelopment which has given it new galleries, a learning centre, state-of-the-art collections storage, a library and visitor facilities. It is now a leading museum, gallery and heritage centre for the Southwest of England – a true cultural beacon.

Dorset Museum is owned and managed by the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society (DNHAS) and was established to collect, preserve, research and exhibit objects relating to the history, natural history and culture of Dorset.

The Board of Trustees has strategic responsibility for the running of the DNHAS and Dorset Museum. The Board deals with all major policy decisions, strategic and constitutional matters, and is responsible for the approval of the annual budget and accounts and business plan, ensuring the solvency of the DNHAS and the safety of its assets.

The Board works to ensure good governance and management to achieve financial stability, resilience and statutory compliance.
