Shire Hall Museum is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Director, Virginia Smith.
Virginia will join the Museum at the end of April, bringing with her a wealth of experience from across the heritage sector.
Dr. Rose Wallis, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said: “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we’re very excited to welcome Virginia Smith as the new Director of Shire Hall Museum. Virginia’s considerable experience in the heritage sector, and successes in community work and relationship building, promise to help us achieve our ambitions as an award-winning museum, community hub, learning space, and centre for social justice.”
Virginia joins Shire Hall Museum from the Museum of Croydon, where she held the position of Museum and Collections Manager. Throughout her career, Virginia has worked with a variety of museums, galleries and heritage organisations, with over 25 years of experience in the sector.
Virginia Smith said “Today more than ever it is important to highlight, and learn from, the stories of social justice, and injustice, which form part of Shire Hall Museum’s collection and exhibitions. I am thrilled to be joining the Museum as it steams ahead with its ambitious plans for the future. I look forward to playing a leading part in delivering its vision and deepen its engagement at both local and national level.”
The staff, volunteers and trustees at Shire Hall Museum are all excited for Virginia to join the team, and look forward to welcoming her to the Museum at the end of April.
