Exciting Family Activities This Easter

To celebrate the exhibition, the Dorset Museum & Art Gallery has prepared an exciting line-up of hands-on, family-friendly activities this Easter, offering visitors of all ages a chance to immerse themselves in the world of ancient Rome.

GLADI-EGG-TOR TRAIL – Daily during museum opening hours (with ticket entry – kids go free!) – Embark on an Easter adventure! Follow the GLADI-EGG-TOR trail through the museum, hunting for hidden Roman and gladiator-themed eggs. A perfect challenge for families to test their egg-hunting skills while learning about history in a fun and interactive way.

UNLEASH YOUR INNER ROMAN WARRIOR – 12 April 2025, 12:00pm – 2:00pm – Create and decorate your own Roman helmet and shield at this epic, free drop-in event. Step into the world of ancient Rome and take home a piece of history! Perfect for all ages.

WRITE LIKE A ROMAN – TABLET MAKING – 8 & 15 April 2025, 10:00am – 12:00pm – Experience writing the ancient way! Make a Roman frame tablet filled with clay and inscribe your message in Latin using a stylus—just as Roman students, merchants, and gladiators once did. A hands-on way to explore Roman communication and numerals. 

CRAFT A GLADIATORIAL ANIMAL EGG CUP10 & 17 April 2025, 10:00am – 12:00pm – Unleash your creativity and sculpt a clay egg cup inspired by the mighty creatures of the gladiatorial games—lions, bears, elephants, or even mythical beasts! Design your unique Easter egg holder with Roman-inspired artistry.
